I’m probably a bit crazy! After all, what kind of 60+ year old women packs her backs to travel solo by train for a month? Me! That’s who! Starting this week, I will be traveling to 6 cities in Northern Europe. Then, I will journey down south for a week in Italy.
When I explained to Interrail that women over 60 are not the quiet, passive souls that the media paints us as, they agreed to send me on my way. I know how many of you love to travel, so, I hope that you will join me on this journey!
My goal for this trip is to show the world that women over 60 can be adventurous travelers. We are passionate about discovering new places, meeting new people and reinventing ourselves. In addition, according to one of our recent polls, the majority of the women in our community love to travel by train.
I wish that you could all come with me in the real world. But, since we should need a pretty big train for that, I hope that traveling with me virtually will be the next best thing.
Trains Are Like Time Machines
I have always thought of trains as time machines. The rocking motion, combined with colorful scenes, whizzing past, takes you back in time. Train journey’s help you to reflect on your present and plan for the future.
As I go on my train journey with Interrail, I will stop along the way to share videos with all of you. I will introduce you to the people I meet and tell you about all of the fascinating places that I visit. If you haven’t already, make sure that you sign up for the Sixty and Me newsletter so that you will be the first to know where I am.
Next Stop Berlin!
My journey starts in Berlin. After that, I will be traveling to Hamburg, Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm and Amsterdam. Then, I will be turning south and traveling to Italy to take part in a cooking program in Lecce with Flavours Holidays, who have been gracious enough to host me.
Many of the train segments will be over 8 hours, so, I will take my iPhone, loaded with books, puzzle games and Skype (to stay in touch with my family.) I will also be taking along my coloring books (don’t laugh) and knitting materials. I can’t wait to get started!
I Hope You Will Join Me on this Adventure
I started Sixty and Me because I wanted to challenge aging stereotypes and help the women in our community to get the most from life. I want us to say no to invisibility and yes to adventures or all kinds.
I’m sure that this trip will be fabulous! Please jump aboard and join me for the ride!
